July 4th

Today in church we sang the Star Spangled Banner, first and second verses. I don't ever remember singing the second verse. I thought maybe those who read this blog would be interested in reading it and since this is the day we celebrate our country's birth and liberty, it would be fitting.

The Star Spangled Banner
by Francis Scott Key

O thus be it ever, when free men shalt stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation;

Blest with victory and peace, may the heaven rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation

Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust!"

And the star spangled banner in triumph shall wave
Over the land of the free and the home of the brave.
